Although it's more a sampler than a proper anthology -- how could a label anthologize an artist with two albums? -- Icon features all eight of D'Angelo's charting singles from 1995 through 2000. That includes the Top 10 R&B singles "Brown Sugar," "Cruisin'," "Lady," and "Untitled (How Does It Feel)." The covers of Prince's "She's Always in My Hair" (from the Scream 2 soundtrack) and Eugene McDaniels' "Feel Like Makin' Love" (an album cut) are the throw-ins, and they remain relevant pieces of the musician's all-too-short discography. Both Brown Sugar (1995) and Voodoo (2000) are excellent, but those who are unable to score both albums could do worse than this budget-priced compromise. ~ Andy Kellman
