Bobby Mcferrin DON'T WORRY, BE HAPP
Bobby Mcferrin DON'T WORRY, BE HAPP
Personnel: Bobby McFerrin (vocals, percussion).
Recording information: Capitol Records (1986-1992).
Although this anthology is named after Bobby McFerrin's one chart hit, 1988's feel-good novelty song "Don't Worry, Be Happy," it provides a much broader overview of this exceptional vocal talent. One of the most unique jazz singers of all time, McFerrin moves beyond simple scatting into a sometimes otherworldly set of vocal sounds. Five live tracks include a pair of duets with Chick Corea on the duo's own "Even For Me" and the Thelonious Monk standard "Round Midnight," as well as a playful audience participation piece called "I Love Music." Another highlight is 1985's "Another Night In Tunisia," a collaboration on the Dizzy Gillespie classic with earlier vocal jazz master Jon Hendricks and the vocalese group Manhattan Transfer.
