King Pleasure MOODY'S MOOD FOR LOVE
King Pleasure MOODY'S MOOD FOR LOVE
Personnel includes: King Pleasure, Jon Hendricks (vocals), Seldon Powell, Plas Johnson (tenor saxophones).
Includes recordings from a 1962 United Arist release and earlier recordings for Aladdin (1956) and Jubilee (1955).
Personnel: King Pleasure (vocals); Harold Land, Teddy Edwards (tenor saxophone); Matthew Gee (trombone); Gerald Wiggins (piano); Earl Palmer (drums).
The bulk of this CD reissue contains King Pleasure's final recording session, a 1962 set with unidentified personnel (other than tenor saxophonist Seldon Powell). A few remakes ("I'm in the Mood for Love" and "Don't Get Started") are joined by originals, a couple of straightforward tunes, and some newer vocalese arrangements. In addition, this CD has two previously unreleased numbers and six selections from very rare singles put out by Aladdin and Jubilee during 1956. Highlights overall include "Jazz Jump," "Sometimes I'm Happy," "Mean to Me," "D.B. Blues" and "All of Me." It is easy to acquire the complete King Pleasure, since everything he recorded has now been reissued on three CDs; all are recommended. ~ Scott Yanow
