Miles Davis Quintet HARMON GYMNASIUM UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA BERKELEY
Miles Davis Quintet HARMON GYMNASIUM UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA BERKELEY
Personnel: Wayne Shorter (tenor saxophone); Herbie Hancock (piano); Tony Williams (drums).
This live concert album finds trumpeter Miles Davis leading his quintet during a performance at University of California's Harmon Gymnasium on April 7, 1967. Joining Davis here are members of his second quintet, including tenor saxophonist Wayne Shorter, pianist Herbie Hancock, drummer Tony Williams, and bassist Albert Stinson (sitting in for Ron Carter). This is the group (minus Stinson) that joined Davis for such classic studio dates as Miles Smiles, Sorcerer, and Nefertiti -- the latter of which they would record a mere two months after this concert. Included here is a rare live take of "Dolores" and one of the final versions of "Stella by Starlight" that Davis would ever record. ~ Matt Collar
