Various Artists MAGIC MIKE XXL

The soundtrack to the sequel to the hit 2012 Channing Tatum male-stripper drama Magic Mike, 2015's Magic Mike XXL, features more swaggering, performance-ready anthems. In keeping with the eclecticism of the original film's soundtrack, we get a handful of steamy R&B jams next to more unexpected choices like Nick Waterhouse's vintage '60s-styled, Hammond organ-steeped "Ain't There Something Money Can't Buy," and the sultry, psychedelic, indie electronica of Glass Animals' "Gooey." Primarily though, we get a hefty dose of '90s R&B, with Jodeci's "Freek'n You," 112's "Anywhere," and Backstreet Boys' "I Want It That Way." Elsewhere, the R&B vibe remains strong with cuts by Ginuwine, Donald Glover, R. Kelly, and Jeremih. Of course, the true stars of Magic Mike XXL are the men and the soundtrack is no exception, with actor Matt Bomer bringing the vocal heat with his canny covers of D'Angelo's "Untitled (How It Feels)," and Bryan Adams' "Heaven." ~ Matt Collar
